If you polled the average Bay Area resident, very few could place Knowland Park on a map; other, more knowledgeable residents might assume that you were simply referring to the Oakland Zoo, which resides on part of its land.

What many don’t realize is that the zoo occupies just 45 acres of the vast 525-acre Knowland Park, which stands as Oakland’s largest park. The remaining parkland, which sits in the hills of East Oakland, consist of large swaths of open space filled with hiking paths, birds, wildlife and breath-taking views of the Bay.
